Where is the intersection located?

Why is this intersection so dangerous?

This intersection is well-known by members of the community as unsafe for pedestrians.

There are four key issues that cause this intersection to be dangerous:

  1. High amount of traffic:
    • During busy periods, vehicles frequently block the crosswalks and middle of the intersection.
  2. Speeding drivers:
    • Distracted drivers routinely exceed the speed limit on the road and do not stop for pedestrians.
  3. Low visibility (especially at night):
    • Exceptionally poor pedestrian visibility at night due to lack of lighting or signals.
  4. Lack of effective pedestrian signage:
    • Lack of pedestrian signal to facilitate safe crossing.

How long has this been going on?

  • Fun fact: This intersection has been a problem for over 20 years!
    • As far back as 2001, this intersection was in the news for its dangerous conditions.
  • A flag-waving program was implemented, but was abandoned. Why?
    • A vehicle struck a woman carrying a flag! Unbelievable!
  • A traffic diverter was installed on the northwest corner of the intersection in 2003.
    • It is not clear if any changes or safety upgrades have been considered since then.
